The Town vs Gown match (Cambridge City vs Cambridge University) will be taking place next Wednesday. This match is intended as a bit of fun, open to players of all abilities. Town currently have a few more players than Gown, so it would be great if we could get a few more players for Gown to balance the numbers.Please email the Match Secretary as soon as possible if you would like to play and have not already done so.
Date: Wednesday 27th April
Time: Organised for 7.30pm but usually starts around 7.45pm to allow people time to arrive. Refreshments will be available.
Venue: St. Augustine's Church Hall, Richmond Road (Cambridge City Chess Club)
Format: 30 mins per player per game, 2 games, one white, one black vs different opponents.
We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer and is looking forward to the new term.Club events will be starting in early October, and we would like to draw to the attention of everyone interested in playing chess with CUCC this term the events page.
Freshers in particular should note the Societies' Fair (come on either Tuesday 5th or Wednesday 6th) and Freshers' Blitz (Sunday 10th), while existing members should note that the first club afternoon will be on Saturday 9th.
All potential players are also advised to join the mailing list if they have not already, in order to receive notifications and reminders of events.
With three of the top five Varsity players in the team, Churchill I demolished the majority of the division 1 teams, only drawing against City I and Queens'. Congratulations!The rest of the league information can be found here.

This Wednesday we played the Cambridge City Chess Club in the 8th annual Town vs Gown match, with an impressive win by a 23-point margin. Many thanks to all participants, and to the City Club for organising and hosting the event!

This Saturday, 3-6pm in the Butler House Party Room, Burrell's Field, we will be holding our last event of the year, Farewell Blitz! Come along and win some prizes, or just for fun!
Just like two years ago, the Oxford Seconds' Varsity team came to Cambridge and got defeated 8-2. Not too bad - well done team!
